That’s me at 32 weeks!

Hi ladies, so I thought why not share with you guys what I wrote down for my birth plan. I had it first time with Edanur as well particularly because I was going to give birth in the hospital setting (well hospital’s birth center).

I would highly recommend having a birth plan if you don’t have one yet and giving it to your midwife or nurse and letting them know in advance what you exactly want. Trust me they’ll persuade you a lot but stick to your grounds on the things that matter to YOU!

There is a way to make your legal birth plan as well which basically will be notarized especially if you are going to a crappy hospital and this birth plan assures you that hospital policy is NOT the law! It’s up to you if you’d like to get that. I already cleared from the beginning what I wanted so they never pushed me enough (yes they still try their fear tactics)!!

Here is an example of the things that were important to ME in my last birth plan so I wrote them down on the first page.

  • I will NOT be taking IVs, pain medication, and other interventions unless I feel the need to. Do not mention them.
  • I will TAKE legal action against the hospital if I was FORCED or MEDICALLY COERCED into doing anything I didn’t want to do right away.
  • I will not sign anything without reading completely with all the side effects clearly mentioned. Print the side effect page to me and ONLY then I will decide what I would like to do further! (this one I did and the pediatrician never came back to me lol)
  • I will NOT give newborn Erthromyocin, Hep B, and Vit. K injection (this comes with a black box warning). Just tell them if needed I will get it done with my own pediatrician later (I personally never did)
  •  I REFUSED Glucola for gestational diabetes and just did my 2 weeks’ readings (terrible ingredients)
  • I will NOT take Pitocin after delivery unless I clearly hemorrhaged.
  • I will NOT take Pitocin to speed up the labor (stick to your grounds)!
  • I will not do continuous fetal monitoring as this can put the baby in distress.
  • If C-section needed it will be ONLY gentle cesarian with skin-to-skin and a minimum 5 min cord delay.

So these are some of the things I mentioned and I went over them with the hospital admin lady and she respected my wishes! Some minor wishes were not respected because I felt like I didn’t want to argue at that time and I chose to remain calm.

Best of luck ladies and just know your body knows what to do and remain calm at all times and DO NOT listen to negative stories. These are the things that helped me have a calm natural birth!!

With care, Nimra
